Grant A. Dyer, 91, of Columbus, passed away January 25, 2018, at Kobacker House hospice. He was born September 10, 1926, in Dayton, to Russell G. and Nora Manchester Dyer. He married Polly Pierce of Ashland, OH, in 1952. Grant earned a master's degree in City and Regional Planning at The Ohio State University. He started as a city planner and eventually became a zoning administrator for the City of Columbus. One of his early professional projects was having a hand in the preservation of German Village. In retirement, he was an active volunteer at Riverside Hospital for 19 years. He also served as a volunteer teaching adults to read. He changed the lives of countless people, and he was friends with everyone, regardless of their position in life. Grant was an active hiker, birdwatcher, observer of nature, and a voracious reader. He loved hiking in the mountains of Colorado and Montana, and surprised us all when he climbed up Mt. Sentinel in Missoula, MT, at the age of 74! He is survived by his wife Polly, son David and daughter-in-law Dorene, son Paul, and grandsons Collin and Alex. He was preceded in death by son Mark. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Grant's name to Kobacker House in Columbus.
