Allan Wesley Knaup

July 3, 1950 — May 12, 2024

Allan Wesley Knaup passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12th, carrying the love and support of his family and friends with him on the next step of his journey. Diagnosed with lung cancer Thanksgiving of 2023, Al fought a hard battle for seven months as the cancer spread quickly to his bones. The family is forever grateful for the excellent medical care and attention of the staff at Kobacker House and Riverside Medical Centers.

Al was born July 3rd,1950 in Springfield Ohio and spent his childhood summers in Cape Cod, working on the family farm, flying small airplanes, and fixing up old cars. During the Vietnam War he served in the United States Army as an air traffic control operator, stationed in DaNang and Saigon. After his military service, he graduated from Wright State University with a degree in accounting and quickly moved into the retirement plan administration industry. He would later use his experience and strong work ethic to start his own retirement plan TPA business, Columbus Retirement Administrators. He married Katie Black in 1982 and together they enjoyed traveling, renovating homes, and shared a love of art and music. In his lifetime he was an avid woodworker, building beautiful furniture of his own design. Above all he is remembered as a craftsman; his integrity, attention to detail, and love for his family showing through every facet of his life. A treasured husband, beloved father and grandfather, and a dear friend.

His family and friends will be holding a Celebration of Life reception at Mozart’s Café in Clintonville August 18 from 11am to 2pm.
