Andrew Allen King

Jun 14, 1953 — Oct 16, 2026

Andrew “Andy” A. King, 73, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a brief illness involving leukemia and heart disease. Andy was preceded in death by his father William (Bill) King and his mother Elizabeth (Bette) King.

Andy is survived by his brothers, Mark (Brenda) and Monty (Apple); his sister, Stephanie (Eddie Taketa); his nephews, Jeremy, Matt, Mike, and TJ; and his nieces, Miya and Renee.

Born June 14, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, Andy attended St. James the Less and St. Francis DeSales High School. After graduating, he hitchhiked to California and spent 10 years living and working in Northern California near extended family, with whom he remained close throughout his life.

Andy had an amazing and sometimes wicked sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He read multiple newspapers daily and enjoyed debating and discussing current events. He loved spending time with others, especially gathering with family for the holidays. Andy’s love of Seinfeld inspired a favorite family tradition: gathering for Festivus each year for the “airing of grievances.”

He loved sports, had an extensive knowledge of sports history, and was especially fond of horse racing. He also loved being outside, gardening, landscaping, and creating eclectic vignettes out of other people’s castoff items. We’ll miss receiving his photos of “Andy Land.”

Andy gave back to the community and his friends by volunteering across the city of Columbus. While he volunteered with many organizations, he could often be found at The American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop or Fresco Furnishings in Grandview.

Andy left us too soon and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Andy’s generous spirit by volunteering your time or making a donation to the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop – Columbus (1198 Kenny Centre, Columbus, OH 43220 614-457-4227), or to another organization of your choice.

A celebration of life is planned for the weekend after Thanksgiving. The family will share details via Facebook.
