(Shirley) Annette Gleason, 83, of Delaware, OH (formerly of Bellefontaine, OH) passed away peacefully in her residence at Willow Brook at Delaware Run on Saturday, July 30th, 2022. She was born February 2, 1939 to Wilford and Doris (Dunbar) Ingall. Annette graduated from Lyons High School as class valedictorian in 1957. She attended Bowling Green State University, then Adrian College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, receiving a BA degree in elementary education in 1965. Annette truly enjoyed the years she spent as an elementary teacher before taking a break to raise her children. Later she worked at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, before finally retiring in 2011 (though it took a lot of convincing).
Annette is survived by her children Troy (Julie) Gleason (Naperville, IL) and Jen (Dan) Shoults (Westerville, OH); her grandchildren Grace and Olivia (Troy’s) and Sam and Addison (Jen’s); her sisters Margie Ingall (Bryan, OH) and Jayne (Jim) Steffel (Bryan, OH); along with two nieces, two great-nieces, and a great-great-niece. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Annette really enjoyed doing crafts and playing games with her grandkids. She was a lifelong learner who found comfort in her Christian faith (Disciples of Christ). An avid reader, she was pleased to claim fabulous prizes as a repeat winner in the library’s adult summer reading contest. She never drove; despite ironically having a Dad that at one time taught Driver’s Ed and operated a car dealership. In recent years, she enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, and played a cutthroat game of bingo (resulting in more fabulous prizes). Among many other things, her elaborate holiday and seasonal decorating year-round (which included cardboard cutouts for all occasions) and her unique pronunciation of certain words will be greatly missed.
Annette will be buried alongside her family in Lyons Cemetery and a private memorial will be held at a future date.
