Barbara Jean Mowery, “Barbie”, of Columbus, passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, L. Richard Mowery, her parents Clarence Swift and Jean Todd,and brother, Tom Swift, in-laws Leonard and Martha Mowery, and son in law, Renold J.Williams. She is survived by daughters, Julie Williams, Lori (Mark)Miller, and son Ron (Melinda) Mowery, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and sisters, Linda(Bob) Howe and Kathy Shortridge, lots of nieces, nephews and cousins. Barbie graduated from Columbus North High School in 1956. She married the love of her life on Feb. 14, 1959. Barbie was a stay at home mom, volunteered at her children’s school, and was involved in church activities. She was an excellent seamstress, making dresses for her daughters, draperies, bed spreads, square dance outfits, and wedding attire to name a few things. Barbie volunteered at Riverside Hospital for 25 years and received the Presidential Award for Volunteerism. Barbie has also been a church secretary at The Alliance Church and Free Will Methodist Church, as well as an office assistant at the Law Office of Igo and Igo. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tranquility Hospice, 1949 SR-37, Ste C, Delaware, OH 43015. A Celebration of Life will be on January 7, 2026, in the Fireside Room at Westerville Christian Church, from 4:00-6:00 pm, located at 471 E. College Ave, Westerville, OH 43081. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Grove at Oakleaf and Tranquility Hospice for their love and care over the years for Barbie.
