Randy Smith, age 79, passed away peacefully of Alzheimer’s on May 9, 2020 in Dublin, Ohio. He was born July 9, 1940 in Cincinnati to his parents Bertrand L. Smith, Jr. and Margaret Shawhan Smith. Randy was a graduate of Western Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati.
Randy is survived by his wife Marsha, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in June and their children Jeffrey (Nicole) Smith of Dublin, OH and Kimberly (David) Folkeson of Studio City, CA. Also his former wife, Diane Smith of Florence, KY and their children, Kelly (Barb) Smith and Courteney Robison of Hopkinton, NH.
Randy’s pride and joy were his grandchildren Christian, Taggart and Jovie.
Randy enjoyed a long career in sales & marketing. He first worked with his father at his bookstore, Acres of Books, in Cincinnati. In 1968 he began his long career with McGraw-Hill Publishing Company working in New York City, Colorado Springs and Dublin. Before retiring he worked with Bloomberg Business Week where he partnered with colleges and universities to integrate Business Week into their curriculum.
For those who knew Randy best they will remember him with a Starbucks: Venti Bold double cupped, and his love for the Cincinnati Reds, Skyline Chili and Graeter’s Ice Cream.
Randy’s body has been donated to the Ohio State University, Division of Anatomy for research & training. His body will be cremated. He requested that there be no funeral, but instead to have a party. Therefore, we will celebrate his life at a later date.
