Bobby Lee Davis Sr, Columbus OH
June 5, 1939- February 27, 2023
Born in Matewan, WV, attended Matewan High School. Bobby spent 4 years serving in the Navy and worked as a railroad engineer for 42 years. Bobby was also an airplane pilot and instructor, and at one point owned his own flight school. For many years Bob enjoyed golfing, boating, playing cards, playing guitar, and just enjoying the company of his family and friends.
Bob was a very sensitive man and did not like anything sad. He never wanted to watch sad movies or tv shows. If he could make a joke of a situation, he would, even when his jokes sometimes got him in trouble. Treasuring each relationship, he loved his family and friends dearly, reaching out to them near or far. If you were related to him, you were deeply loved.
Bob is predeceased by his mother Louise May Hew and father Jim Davis, Omaha NE; Sister Shirley Potect, of Lincoln NE.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sheila Davis of Columbus, OH; Daughter Mary Ann Murphy (James) of Malta, OH; Bobby Davis Jr (Judy) of FL; Rodger Michael Davis (Chris) of Grove City OH. Stepchildren Thomas Wehrle, Mary P Wehrle, and Mark Wehrle all of Hilliard OH; Vincent Wehrle and Matthew Wehrle of Columbus OH and Carol Schwers (William) of Naperville, IL. Brother James Davis of Omaha NE; Sister Donna Potect (Butch) of NE; Sister Mary Secord (Walter) of Omaha NE; Sister Jean Compton of Seymore, TN. 20 grandchildren, 13 Great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
During Bob’s life he worked for New York Central Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail and finally CSX. He was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Milford Center OH; St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Bradenton, FL; St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in FL. Additionally, he enjoyed being a member of The Lions Club, The Moose Lodge, and The Masons.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the James Solove Cancer Research Hospital and Hospice of Central Ohio for their tireless work and loving advocacy. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either one of these organizations.
A funeral Mass will be held 11:00am, Thursday, March 16, 2023, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 6899 Smokey Row Road, Columbus OH. Calling hours at the church from 10-11am and luncheon at the church following the service. Bob will be interred at Dayton National Cemetery on a later date.
