Carl Vernon Strout

Carl Vernon Strout, 101, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 27, 2026.

Born on July 15, 1925, in Milford, Massachusetts, to Carl P. and Carmen M. (Kemp) Strout, Carl lived a life marked by unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, humble service, enduring love, and deep devotion to his family.

After overstating his age, Carl enlisted in the United States Navy on September 22, 1941, several months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He later trained as a Hospital Corpsman, attained the rank of Pharmacist's Mate Second Class, and was assigned to serve with United States Marine units during the Battle of Okinawa and the occupation of Japan. After returning home briefly, Carl reenlisted in the Navy and continued serving until June 1948. His military service instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for the freedoms Americans enjoy and a profound respect for the American flag.

Carl married the love of his life, Genevieve "Jeannie" E. (King) Strout, after knowing her for only two weeks. Their sixty-eight-year marriage was built on faith, unconditional love, and a shared commitment to raising their eleven children.

He worked for more than twenty years at Viking Engraving before later serving as a custodian at Westerville North High School. In retirement, Carl completed the Appalachian Trail over four years and later bicycled across the United States from California to Georgia. Yet those who knew him best remember him for his warm smile, generous spirit, genuine love for people, and the Christ-centered life he faithfully lived.

Carl is survived by his eleven children: Linda Bigboy; Carol (Ron) Jones; Bonnie (Patrick) Northcott; Gayemarie (Bob) Long; Carl D. (Kathy) Strout Jr.; Melody (Sonny) Shull; Lisa (Guy) Hadley; Donna Strout; Richard (Liz) Strout; Sherrie (Mark) Webb; and James (Mary) Strout. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Estelle Ellis and Elaine Andrews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Genevieve E. (King) Strout; his parents, Carl P. Strout and Carmen M. (Kemp) Strout; his brother, Philip Strout; his sisters, June Howard Frieswick, Lucille Weroniecki, Virginia Smith, and Judith Roberts; his grandson, Keith Homstad Jr.; his great-grandsons, Benjamin Bigboy and Matthew Bigboy; and his son-in-law Patrick Northcott.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Freedom Farms, 8758 Myers Road, Centerburg, Ohio. A private family funeral service and burial will be held.
