Catherine Jean Callahan

Catherine (Cathy) Callahan, 75, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 5th, 2025. She was surrounded the last few days by her family. Cathy was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 16th, 1950. She was born to Charles & Elva Kusic.

Cathy met the love of her life David when she was 16 years old at the Ohio State Fair. She told her best friend Mary after they met “I’m going to marry him.” Cathy worked as a Santa Helper at Lazarus downtown and as a gift wrapper part time. After high school she took a job with the Ohio State Department as a Bookkeeper. She married David on December 27th, 1969, and remained deeply in love. Cathy is preceded in death by David her husband who went to Heaven on July 26th, 2025. She remained strong and continued to fight for life and full of love even after her heart was broken.

Cathy is survived by their three children she was very proud and loved fiercely: Heather (Billy Gore), Melissa (Ed Solt), and Christopher (Amy) Callahan. Cathy is also survived by her two grandchildren Sarah and Katie Solt that she loves and enjoyed sharing great stories with. Cathy is survived by her siblings: Janet Kusic, John (Nancy) Kusic, Jim Kusic, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

After marriage Cathy lived in multiple states with her husband who was a Navy Nuclear Submarine Supply Officer. Once they started having children Cathy dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mom and dedicated wife. She served as the “Room Mom” the entire elementary school career of her children then served in roles on the PTA and Athletic boosters for her children when they were in high school. Cathy ensured that her children knew how to be compassionate, loving, non-judgmental and smart! Cathy was incredibly intelligent with a great sense for mathematics. She is also known for her great story telling abilities that kept her family very entertained. Her happy place is Hilton Head Island SC where she and David took their family for vacations for decades.

Everyone that knows Cathy knows she is the most loving, caring, and kindest person you could meet. To know her was to love her. She was a true inspiration for those battling cancer at the Spielman for the last couple of years as she was a true warrior not allowing it to stop her from living life. She was always full of positivity, encouragement, hope, faith and above all love. She taught her family how to be a wife (cook at top of list), a mother, and a woman of love. Her hugs, smile, laughter, love and listening ears will be deeply missed. She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her husband of 56 years.
