Charles Allen

August 30, 1929 — April 30, 2023

Charles R. “Charlie” Allen passed peacefully at home on the morning of April 30, 2023. Charlie is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sunny Allen, and their sons Andrew and Joshua. He was 93 years old.

Charlie was the definition of a “self-made” man. Born in West Virginia in 1929 and having to overcome numerous childhood adversities, Charlie learned to rely upon himself at an early age.

Charlie was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in an artillery unit during the Korean War. His honorable service enabled him to attend Miami University on the G.I. Bill. It was at Miami where he met his bride-to-be, Pongsun “Sunny” Choi, a Korean refugee brought to the United States by Methodist missionaries.

After brief stays in California and Washington, D.C., Charlie and Sunny settled down in Worthington, Ohio and began to focus on family. It was then that Charlie began a long and distinguished career as a much sought after commercial real estate appraiser.

Charlie was a devoted family man who enjoyed watching his children play sports, especially baseball. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all manner of things and could regale his friends for hours with stories of life. In his spare time, he enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

Kind-hearted and generous, Charlie was a good husband and a better father. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at a date yet to be determined. Please email Josh at josh0968@sbcglobal.net for information.
