Dale Olin Channell 81 of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Dublin Glenn Memory Care. He was born September 10, 1944 in Bridgewater, Iowa and spent his formative years in Senecaville, Ohio. Dale earned his MBA from The Ohio State University where he met his future wife, Gayle Claar, on a blind date. They married August 18, 1968 in Groveport, Ohio, and moved to Bowling Green, OH, where Dale continued his job at Owens Corning Fiberglas (OCF) in Toledo, OH. In 1972 they moved to Perrysburg where they had 2 sons Gregory Alan in 1973 and Jeffrey Dale in 1977.
Dale worked at OCF as controller in various departments. He spent 2 yrs in Anderson, SC as plant controller and 2 yrs in Waxahachie, TX as plant manager to learn the ropes in order to do his job better at the home office and relate to the workers. It was important for him to treat everyone the same regardless of their job title. He retired after 25 yrs at the age of 49.
Dale worked hard and played hard. Michigan was his playground where he enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing, riding ATVs and hosting family and friends. His smoked pork loin was a favorite and he considered himself an “eating specialist”.
Dale’s other love was OSU sports. He and Gayle had season football tickets and attended for 50 yrs. They were also initial basketball and ice hockey ticket holders when the Schott opened. His love of OSU sports was not limited to football and basketball, however, as he made time to attend a variety of athletic events. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of OSU and Cleveland Indians players and stats.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Edith, half sister Juanita and half brother Dean. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Gayle, sons Greg and Jeff (Courtney and granddaughter Reese), sister Marilyn Hollar (Ron), twin brothers Dwayne and Wayne, nieces and nephews.
