Damian A. Desch, born October 25, 1954, in Dayton, Ohio, passed unexpectedly on January 22, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. He was 71 years old.
A proud graduate of The Ohio State University in 1976, Damian began his professional journey at Bank Ohio before transitioning to Ross Labs. His career continued through the company’s evolution into Abbott Laboratories, where he remained a dedicated employee until his retirement in January 2017.
Damian's life was marked by a deep appreciation for nature and a profound respect for all living things. His love for animals was evident in the care he gave to his cats and the joy he found in observing backyard wildlife. This passion extended into his volunteer work at the Ohio Wildlife Center, where he contributed his time and energy beginning in June of 2017.
An avid soccer enthusiast, Damian supported the sport at every level. He spent many years refereeing youth matches, coaching and playing at the intramural level, and was a devoted fan of the Columbus Crew. His enthusiasm also reached across the Atlantic as he followed the English Premier League with great interest.
Damian’s commitment to helping others was reflected in his lifelong dedication as a blood donor—giving over 18 gallons throughout his life—and through his decision to be an organ donor upon his passing.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Laura Beardsley, and daughter, Amanda Desch, both of Columbus, Ohio. He is also remembered by siblings Mark and Lois Desch of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Anthony and Terry Desch of Kneeland, California; Monica Desch Garrison and David Garrison of Columbus, Ohio; and Sean and Pearl Desch of Tucson, Arizona; many cousins, a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jean Desch of Vandalia, Ohio.
Damian’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched—with kindness, generosity, and quiet dedication. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
