Daniel Wayne Lytle Sr., 71, passed away September 8, 2024, in hospice care after a tough battle with cancer. Born on March 11, 1953, to Wanda and Donald E. Lytle Sr. in Columbus, Ohio, his early years were spent around that area, graduating from Groveport Madison High School. After making his home in N. Carolina and Florida for several years, he moved back home to Columbus. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his brother Donald E. Lytle Jr., and grandson Randy Davis Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Angela Stevens (Johnny), Daniel W. Lytle Jr. (Cheryl), Kimberly Lytle, adopted son Stephen Lytle, sister Ronda A. West (Charles), and brothers Robert L. Lytle Sr. (May) and John C. Lytle (Cindy), aunts Shirley A. Polzer and Katherine Miller, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dan, whose nickname was Buck, had a brilliant, creative mind and could do almost anything he wished to accomplish. As his father before him, he became a police constable in Franklin County before learning his business trade. He owned and operated Lytle Heating and Cooling for the remainder of his adult working years. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, he was also a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, a Knights Templar, and belonged to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Dan was adventurous and loved people. He especially enjoyed his Corvette, riding his Harley, attending Daytona Beach Bike Week, and hunting for ‘treasures’ with daughter Angie at the flea market. He took a great deal of pride in his home and was dedicated to his family.
There are no words to describe how much Dan has meant to those who knew the kind, thoughtful person he was. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his creative stories, sense of humor, compassion, love of animals, willingness to help those in need, and his incredible singing voice. The last song he sang on this earth was “Amazing Grace”. He will be a joyful addition to Heaven’s choir.
Although Shaw-Davis Funeral Home of Columbus provided for Dan’s final care, no traditional service is planned. In lieu of flowers, a prayer and a kind thought would be most appreciated. A private gathering to remember him will take place later.
