David E Chaffin

David E. Chaffin, 68, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on August 19, 2026, just 12 days before his 69th birthday.

A proud Ohio sports fan, David enjoyed cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals. He was also a gifted handyman who could fix, build, or figure out nearly anything. His family will fondly remember his favorite description of himself: “meaner than a bear, tough as nails, and faster than a rattlesnake”—a saying that reflected his toughness, humor, and unmistakable personality.

After retiring, David enjoyed life at his own pace. He spent his time watching sports, visiting the casino, playing golf, following NASCAR, and appreciating the freedom retirement brought. Above all, he treasured his role as a father and grandfather. His family will remember the laughter, conversations, gatherings, and everyday moments that made time with him special.

David is survived by his daughters, Nicole (Shawn) Hoffman, Tiffany (Kenneth) Robinson, and Bethany Chaffin; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Myles, David, Zoey, Cerenity, and Coi; his longtime girlfriend, Terri Plante; his stepbrother, Glenn (Kathleen) Townson; his brother-in-law, Dave Evans; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacquelea and Kenneth Townson, and his siblings, Ed Chaffin, Patty Evans, and Dana Chaffin.

David leaves behind a lasting legacy in the family he loved. His daughters and grandchildren will carry his memory forward, remembering not only the many things he could repair with his hands, but also his humor, character, and the memorable sayings that brought smiles to those around him.

David was deeply loved, deeply cherished, and will be forever missed.
