David Mark "Grabs" Grabosky, age 63, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. After a courageous year-long battle with cancer, Dave's strength, grace, and enduring optimism remained an inspiration to all who knew him.
Born on December 2, 1961, in Warren, Ohio, Dave was the beloved son of Francis (“Buck”) and Irene Grabosky. He attended St. James Elementary, St. Mary’s Middle School, and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School, Class of 1980, where he played basketball, baseball and football. Dave went on to play collegiate basketball at Slippery Rock University, and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Therapy. He was a proud member of Theta Chi Fraternity.
For over 30 years, Dave dedicated his career to serving veterans at the Chalmers P. Wylie VA Clinic in Columbus, and the VA in Chillicothe, where he was deeply committed to the health and well-being of his patients. He retired in 2017, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and professionalism.
Dave was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and The Tribe. A devoted family man, he coached numerous youth sports teams, focusing not just on skill but on attitude and effort. He was a strong supporter of the Clintonville Resource Center and found joy in cooking for his family and friends.
Always one to strike up a friendly conversation, Dave was known for chatting with neighbors from the front porch, offering help whenever it was needed, and greeting life with his signature phrase: “It’s all good!” His positive spirit and generous heart defined his character.
He loved his dogs, golfing, camping, nature, and road trips. His family camped all around Ohio, and spent many fall weekends at Kelly's Island or Lake Hope. Dave was a master at building a fire, and cooking an awesome meal. Among his favorite adventures were family trips to the Gunflint Trail in Minnesota, the Grand Tetons, and the Field of Dreams in Iowa — all places where he felt connected to nature and those he loved.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Rebecca, and their three children: Christopher David (Kate), Kevin Carter (Nikki), Allyson Virginia (Tyler), brother Jim, and sister Debi Briels (Mark). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Hallie Marie and Parker John. He is also survived by his loving labrador, Ivy, and numerous extended family members and friends who will carry his memory with them always.
David Mark Grabosky leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
