It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, known to many simply as "Dale." Born on November 13, 1944, in Piqua, Ohio, he peacefully departed this world on March 30, 2026, due to natural causes following respiratory distress. His 81 years were marked by love, service, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew him.
Born to David Dale Lesher Sr. and Ardella (Mayo) Lesher, Dale grew up in a family that valued community, hard work, and heartfelt connections. He was predeceased by his cherished parents, his grandson Josiah Bernard, and his brother-in-law Frederick Manson. Yet, his legacy lives on through his beloved wife of 56 years, Bonnie, whom he married on January 20, 1968. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and devotion, raising two wonderful daughters, Erin (Lesher) Booher and Kari (Lesher) Bernard, who, along with their families, will forever cherish his memory.
A proud graduate of Milton-Union High School in 1963, father was a standout football athlete. His early years were marked by service and dedication; he was a Vietnam veteran, bravely serving his country in the 1960s. After returning home, he pursued a career in law enforcement, completing his police academy training in 1977 and serving as a police officer while simultaneously working full-time for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). He also volunteered as a firefighter and found joy in farming alongside friends.
Dale's commitment to community extended beyond his professional life. He was once a member of the American Legion and, more recently, a cherished member of the Moose Lodge in Marysville, Ohio. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing, whether on serene trips to Canada with his father or summers spent in Coldwater, Michigan. Bowling leagues in West Milton, Ohio, and golfing pursuits including many golfing trips to Myrtle Beach SC in retirement further exemplified his love for camaraderie and sport.
Known for his ornery and cantankerous spirit, father possessed a unique charm that endeared him to many. He spoke his mind with candor and humor, offering a joyfully unpredictable presence. Though quiet, those fortunate enough to be close to him witnessed his silliness and fun-loving nature firsthand. To his daughters, he was simply the best dad—a title he wore with pride and warmth.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, daughters Erin (and partner Donovin Nye) and Kari (and husband Mark Bernard), grandchildren Peyton Booher, Colton Booher, Justyn Bernard, and Dustyn Bernard, sisters Cindy (and husband Craig Coate) and Robyn (Lesher) Manson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.
In this time of mourning, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and condolences. A celebration of life will be held to honor this incredible man, and details will be shared once arrangements are finalized. Until then, we hold tight to the memories and the love father so generously shared with us all.
Rest in peace, Daddy. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know you.
