Donald E Conley

Donald E. Conley of Columbus, OH, passed away at age 72 on August 22, 2026, at his home. Don was born on February 11, 1954, to Clyde and Alvena (Terri) Conley who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death by brother-in-law Christopher Anthony and Don’s best friend Harry Neff.

One of five children, Don grew up on farms in Ada, Ohio, where he developed a love of nature and good homemade food served up at large family gatherings. He continued the tradition of family meals and fun, becoming the host for friends he welcomed into his life. Fishing was among his favorite pastimes where he found beauty and peace in nature trolling on the Thunder Bay River and excitement in reeling in a big one. Don had a good sense of humor and would often catch others off-guard with his wry wit.

Although quiet and unassuming, Don excelled in academics, becoming the Valedictorian of his high school class. He also loved music and he became lead trombonist in the high school band. Don followed Ohio football and baseball sports teams and was excited to attend a Rose Bowl game as a student to cheer on his Buckeyes. He was also a fan of Ohio University football from his time living in the rural quiet surrounding Athens, OH.

After studying business at Ohio State University, Don turned to the food retail business to serve up fresh produce to his community. He took time to get to know his customers, and they responded in kindness with small, unexpected gifts.

Don is survived by his sisters Patricia A. (Joseph) Vicente, Barbara S. Conley, Diane K. Anthony and brother Steven W. (Cheryl) Conley and bonus son John R. (Lisa) Vogelsang. Others surviving include nephews Chris, Andy, Heath, Brian and John, nieces Heather, Stefanie, Samantha and Trinity and many cousins.

The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to Capital City Hospice for their care of Don and support of the family.
