Dora Jean Shimrock

(Dora) Jean Shimock completed her amazing life passing peacefully on 4/18/2026 with family by her side. She was 99 ½ years old.

Jean was born 10/21/1926 in Hammond IN to Marion and William Rolph. After moving to Willoughby at age 2, she spent 93 years in Willoughby and Willoughby Hills before moving to Columbus for her final 4 years.

Jean was a Baldwin Wallace graduate which prepared her for a teaching career in Cleveland, Euclid and Willoughby Eastlake Schools. She loved teaching and proudly told anyone who asked that it was the best job in the world.

Jean was married to Tom Shimock for 60 years before his death in 2014. She was preceded in death by her son Tom Shimrock (2018) and sisters Helen Guimond and Francis Harris. She is survived by daughter Ginny Shimrock, daughter-in-law Melinda Sager (Mike), grandchildren Tommie Shimrock (Christina), Jennifer Baca (Christopher), Michelle Challa (Azariyas), Rachel Franca (Tyago), Tara Shimrock and 12 great-grand children.

Her love of family, friends and students was closely followed by her love of reading, swimming, cheering on her grandchildren in whatever they were doing and her church, faith life and love for Jesus. She shared love and her zany sense of humor with everyone right until the end and made a big impression on her care team. Her secret to a long life was (apparently) cookies and coffee for breakfast or as soon as they were offered.

A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on 5/9/2026 at Willoughby Hills United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 10 - 11am followed by a service at 11am and time for sharing memories after the service. Wear something Red for Jean. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to be made to WHUMC or Willoughby Hills Public Library.
