Dorothea Gloria Johnson

May 20, 1941 — May 26, 2024

Dorothea Gloria Johnson, Dottie, was born on May 20, 1941 in Buford Georgia. She was one of thirteen children born to Odis and Alice Moss. Dottie was a strong woman. Not just physically but more importantly spiritually. As a young person Dottie visited church after church trying to find God’s name until one day while working in a hospital cafeteria she met a young man named Irving Casiville Johnson. Irv introduced her to Jehovah. Dottie immediately knew she found the true God, and her true love and lifetime partner. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1960s. They married on November 11, 1961. Dorothea’s 12 siblings; Arthur Moss, Odis Sethro Moss, Burby Moss (deceased), Lottie Moss, Marva Cheapoo, Mae Alice Baker, Loretta Robinson (deceased), Genevieve Moss, Elsie Shelley, Joan Moss, Theresa Sims, and Roger Moss were all introduced to Jehovah. As a result, nine were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Irving and Dorothea bore seven children. Cherie, Irveda, Jill, Rebekah, Irving, (Steve, who died at birth) and Micah. Not only did she and Irv teach their children to love Jehovah, as soon as her circumstances permitted, Dottie became a full-time pioneer. She wanted everyone to learn and love Jehovah. Many have recalled fond memories of working in the ministry with Dottie, she was fearless! She also had the joy of helping others who were not related to her by blood dedicate their life to Jehovah. Dottie was known to be kind and thoughtful, going out of her way to extend hospitality. It was very common for her to hear of a need and without delay fill it. Her home was always open to guests. Dottie loved people. For 35 years, in addition to her six children, she’d babysit up to six children and from time to time had up to two additional foster children who lived full-time with her family. Many of those children came back to thank Dottie for the love she showed them. More than a few of her daycare children are grieving with us today. Dottie loved to make people smile. She had a great sense of humor, always joking. Dottie was a wise woman known for giving sound advice. She will truly be missed by her children: Cherie, Veda (Danny), Jill, Rebekah (Chad), Irving Jr. (Christina), and Micah. Nine grandchildren: Azia, Chase, Isaiah, Lydia, Ethan, Farah, Laila, Nolan, and Savannah. Two greatgrandchildren: Mariah and Jordan. And, many friends and family who cherished her.
