In Loving Memory of Edward “Edrow” “Koolaid” Rae James

Edward “Edrow,” affectionately known to many as “Koolaid,” Rae James, age 59, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born on May 18, 1967, in Ohio, Eddie was the beloved son of Debra James and Loyd Vale Sr., both of whom preceded him in death.

Known by his nicknames “Edrow” and “Koolaid,” Eddie was truly a jack of all trades. He could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether working with his hands, solving a problem, or sharing his knowledge, Eddie took great pride in helping others.

One of Eddie’s greatest joys in life was fishing. Whether he was casting a line from the bank or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the water, fishing brought him happiness and was one of his favorite ways to spend his time. Those moments reflected the calm, patient spirit that so many admired in him.

Eddie was especially famous among family and friends for making the best collard greens—a tradition everyone looked forward to at family gatherings. His cooking, quick wit, warm heart, and larger-than-life personality will be remembered for generations.

He shared many years of love and companionship with his longtime girlfriend, Mericle Long, who remained faithfully by his side throughout life’s journey.

Eddie leaves behind his loving children, Jordan Whitmire and Tammy Hawkins; his cherished grandchildren, who brought him endless joy; and his siblings: Tammy Wilkins, Michael Wilkins, Loyd Vale, Christopher (Leslie) Vale, and Charles James. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that Eddie’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, the laughter he brought, the fish he loved to catch, the meals he lovingly prepared, and the unconditional love he gave so freely.
