Elinor Ann Nelson

Elinor Ann Nelson, lovingly known as "Ellie," passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the age of 89 surrounded by the love of her family. While her family grieves the loss of an extraordinary woman, they find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, free from pain, and reunited with those she loved in Heaven.

Born on December 29, 1936, to loving parents who preceded her in death, Elinor Ann Acheson grew into a woman whose life was defined by unwavering faith, unconditional love, creativity, and service to others. She was the heart of her family, the one who offered strength during difficult times, celebrated every success, and never hesitated to care for those she loved.

For nearly forty years, Elinor dedicated herself to teaching, inspiring generations of students with her love of learning and reading.

Faith was the foundation of Elinor's life. As the wife of a minister for many years, she served alongside him in numerous congregations, touching countless lives with her kindness and compassion. Even after those years, she remained involved in her church, quietly demonstrating her faith through both her words and her actions.

Elinor possessed remarkable artistic and musical talents. She loved creating beautiful handmade crafts, especially angels and felt ornaments, which she shared through numerous craft shows over the years. Even as arthritis made working with her hands more difficult and her eyesight declined, she continued to create. Her handcrafted treasures have become cherished holiday traditions in homes throughout the Columbus area and beyond.

Music filled the Nelson home. Elinor's piano was the gathering place for family dinners, celebrations, and countless memories. She shared her passion, teaching all of her grandchildren the love of music as they played the piano and numerous other instruments. Through music, she gave her family a lasting gift that will continue to bring joy for generations.

Elinor's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the treasures of her life. She was their biggest supporter, attending every school event, concert, performance, sporting event, birthday celebration, and milestone with unmatched enthusiasm. She never wanted to miss a moment and made each grandchild feel cherished.

Elinor taught her family life's most valuable lessons. She showed them the importance of faith, the strength of family, the beauty of creativity, and, above all, the power of love, acceptance, and compassion. She loved fiercely, gave generously, and always put others before herself.

Though her family wishes they could have shared many more years with her, they are profoundly grateful for the gift of her life and the countless memories she leaves behind. Her wisdom, encouragement, unwavering support, and endless love have shaped generations and will continue to guide those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Elinor was preceded in death by her parents, Louis K. Acheson and Ruth Acheson; her brother, Louis K. Acheson; her daughters, Lisa Fridrichsen and Meg Nelson; and her son-in-law, Jan Fridrichsen.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Amy (Gabriel Agbaike) Nelson, Jon Nelson, and Sue (TJ) LaMendola; her grandchildren, Emily LaMendola, Chris (Micki) LaMendola, Ainsley Agbaike, and Andrew LaMendola; along with many extended family members, dear friends, former students, church families, and all whose lives were blessed by her kindness and love.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team whose compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support brought comfort and peace to Elinor and her loved ones during her final days. Their gentle presence and extraordinary dedication will always be remembered with deep appreciation.

A memorial service celebrating Elinor's life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Christian Church-1985 Swansford Dr Dublin, OH.

The family invites all who knew and loved Elinor to join them in celebrating a life beautifully lived—a life marked by faith, service, creativity, compassion, and unconditional love.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Department at St. Andrews Christian Church, a fitting tribute to Elinor's lifelong love of music and the joy it brought to so many.
