Floyd "Shadow" Williams, 73, passed away on April 6, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on August 13, 1952, in Coatopa, Alabama, Floyd lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family and passions.
Floyd graduated from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, Ohio, in 1971. Shortly after, he embarked on a distinguished 21-year career in the United States Air Force. His service to his country was a source of pride and honor throughout his life. Following his military career, Floyd worked as a machine operator at Herbal Oil until his retirement.
A man of many talents and interests, Floyd loved playing pool and could often be found listening to music or taking on the role of DJ or MC whenever the opportunity arose. He was also a gifted musician who played several instruments and enjoyed singing. A devoted sports fan, Floyd had an unwavering loyalty to the original Oakland Raiders and relished watching all kinds of sports.
Floyd's faith was an integral part of his life. He came to know Jesus as his personal savior at a young age and dedicated himself to the Lord at Cannon Missionary Baptist Church. His deep spirituality guided him throughout his journey.
Known for his outgoing personality and gift for storytelling, Floyd never met a stranger. He had a knack for connecting with people through his humor and wisdom. Two of his most memorable sayings were "Pause for the Cause" and "Pay Attention to Pay Attention," phrases that reflected both his wit and thoughtful nature.
Floyd cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted son to his beloved mother, Mary Williams, who survives him. He is also survived by his fiancé Madelon Douglas; siblings Bertha Williams, Imogene Parker, and Randall (Louise) Parker III; children LaShawna Williams, Terrell (Frances) Thomas, TraVenus Williams, DeRon Williams, Temeicha (Corey Stallworth) Douglas, and JoVan (Keisha) Douglas; 19 grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and one nephew whom he held dear.
He was predeceased by his father Matthew Williams Sr., siblings Ardelia Williams, Matthew Williams Jr., Howard William, and LuValerie Moye.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Riverside Hospital of Columbus' Palliative Care Center staff under Dr. Walton's leadership for their compassionate care during Floyd's final days. They also thank friends and extended family for their prayers and support during this time.
Floyd "Shadow" Williams will be remembered as a man who brought joy to those around him through music, stories, laughter, and love. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind.
