Fred D. Colombo, of Cleveland, Mentor, and Howard, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with a glioblastoma (Brain Cancer). He was 76 years old.
Born on April 27, 1949, Fred was the son of Mae (Diuliss) and Fred R. Colombo. He grew up alongside his brother, Ronald Colombo, and carried deep pride in his family roots throughout his life.
Fred honorably served in the United States Air Force before building a long and dedicated career in the grocery and beverage industries. He worked at Pic-n-Pay grocery stores, Beverage Distributors, and Knall (Superior) Beverage, where he was known as a hardworking, reliable, and well-liked colleague.
He married the love of his life, Sherry (Warnack) Colombo, and together they built a life centered around family, love, and shared devotion. Fred was a proud father to Dina Colombo-Gay (Andrew) and Jason Colombo (Kristen), and a devoted grandfather to Nicklaus, Dominick, Vincent, and Gemma. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren grow, learn, and become their own people.
In his later years, Fred found some of his happiest moments in the stands. He loved watching his grandsons play hockey and took great pride in cheering them on at rinks across the area. He equally cherished supporting his granddaughter—celebrating her accomplishments in volleyball, track, and field, and marveling at her drive and determination. Being present for their games, meets, and milestones was one of the greatest joys of his life.
A graduate of Cathedral Latin and a longtime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and most recently St Vincent DePaul of Mt Vernon. Fred lived his faith quietly through kindness, loyalty, and simple acts of love.
Fred had many passions, but none greater than his love for his wife and family. He was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan and dedicated countless hours to the sport he loved—coaching and refereeing youth football and serving as an OHSAA official. He valued time spent with family and friends, the camaraderie of sports, and the simple joy of being together.
Whether sharing stories, hosting holidays, supporting his grandchildren, watching the Browns play, or simply enjoying a moment with his Family, Fred made every moment meaningful..
Fred’s love — for Sherry, for his children, for his grandchildren, and for every person blessed to know him — will continue to echo in the lives he touched. His gentle heart, humor, loyalty, and his smile and his laughter will be missed beyond measure.
