SHOEMAKER

Helen Shoemaker, known to all her friends as Suzie, of Friendship Village of Dublin, died Wednesday, August 19th 2015 following a brief illness.  Suzie was originally from Pennsylvania, but grew up in Phillipsburg, NJ.  She earned a BS in Nutrition from Douglass College, which she put to good use both as a dietician, and as a tireless organizer of church dinners in her 92 years.

As a minister’s wife, she pulled up stakes to live in Charlton, Peru, Latham, Troy, and Menands, NY, with stops in Edinburgh, Scotland, Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, NM, and San Anselmo, CA, before moving to the Columbus area.  After that, she satisfied her wanderlust by visiting China, Japan, Europe, Latin America, Canada, India and Nepal, as well as continuing to travel throughout the United States.

In addition to dietetics, she worked as a sales manager with Macy’s, and Coordinated the Synod of the Covenant’s Ecumenical Parish Program.  Throughout, she stayed an active volunteer with many organizations, with a particular concern for the churches to which she belonged; and was a very active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Suzie was pre-deceased by her husband, Dennis E. Shoemaker, who was an Executive Associate of the Synod of the Covenant, as the editor of *Communique.* She is survived by her daughters, Beth Adcock (Mrs. Charles R.) of Latham, NY, and Melody Morgan Srygley (Mrs. William G.) of Cambridge, NY; and her grandsons Bruce Adcock of Sunnyvale, CA, and Derek Srygley of Cambridge, NY, and two great grandchildren, Rayhan and Diya Adcock.

Her memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church of Upper Arlington, Sunday, August 23rd at 3pm.
