Homer Preece Sr., of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on the Lord’s day, Sunday, July 13th, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. He was 82 years old.
Born and raised in Mingo County, West Virginia, Homer always said he had the best childhood. He loved the mountains, the people, and the peace of “home.” Nothing brought him more joy than going back to West Virginia, soaking in its beauty and sharing stories of his roots.
He was a true fan of the Reds, the Bengals, and Ohio State, and he passed down that love of sports to his kids and grandkids. But more than anything, Homer was a man of deep faith. He loved Jesus and lived his life with quiet strength, grace, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Homer worked over 35 years at Buckeye Steel, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and integrity. He didn’t need to say much, his actions spoke for him. He believed in doing what’s right, even when no one was watching.
He loved fiercely, gave generously, and always made sure his family knew how much they meant to him. Even in his final moments, he kept telling us how much he loved us, holding on with courage, faith, and an unshakable heart.
He is survived by the love of his life, Pamela Preece; his children, Homer Jr (Sue) Preece, Kimberly (Jeremy) Preece-Meade, and Patrick Preece; and his grandchildren, Lesley(Trey) Hayes, Grace (Logan) Maneely, Nicholas (Scottie) Booth, Gabriella Gray, Patrick Jr., Raylea, and Jakob. He was a proud great-grandfather to Jerry, Jedidiah, Xavion, Jaxson, Legacy, and Elliot. He is also survived by brothers Warren Preece, Wallace (Delores) Preece and Robert (Lisa) Preece and sister Mary (Gary) Edwards.
Homer also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, including his special nieces Michelle, Alicia, Sandie, Vanessa, Tonya, Wendi, Mandy; and his nephews Jimmy, John, Wally, Greg, Michael, Shane and Warren K. Along with several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Preece; his sisters, Pauline (Cliff) Workman and Barbara (Duane) Annable; his brother, Jerry Preece; his niece, Tammy; and nephew, Gary Jr.
A service to celebrate Homer’s life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Shaw-Davis Clintonville.
He will be laid to rest at Preece Cemetery in Delbarton, West Virginia, his forever home, at a date to be determined.
To know him was to love him. To be loved by him was one of life’s greatest blessings.
