James “Jim” Chafin, 78, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born on February 28, 1947, in Greyeagle, West Virginia, Jim spent the majority of his life in Columbus, where he worked hard and built a life rooted in family, faith, and service.
Jim retired after a long and dedicated career as a painter and maintenance worker for various apartment complexes. He was known for his strong work ethic, helping hand, and a knack for fixing just about anything. He was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and could often be found cheering them on with passion and pride.
He was a devout Christian, affectionately known as “Amen Jim” by those in his church community. His faith guided his life, and he often volunteered his time and skills to help maintain and improve the church grounds—painting, repairing, and lending a hand wherever needed.
Above all, Jim cherished time with his family. He is survived by his three sons, Jimmy (April), Shawn (Whitney), and Matt (Morgan), and his beloved grandchildren: Hailey, Abbigaile, Shawn, Alli, Mariah, Amiyah, and Maverick. He also leaves behind his sister Bonnie (O’Neil) Wilson, brother Don (Fran) Chafin, and many nieces and nephews who will miss his humor, generosity, and heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lexie Chafin; his brothers Ralph, Tom, Bob, Al, and Paul; and his sisters Aleene and Jean.
Jim lived a life of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering faith. His presence, his laughter, and his willingness to help anyone in need will be deeply missed.
