James L. Sweeney passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2025. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 18, 1940. He graduated from Aquinas Prep Academy, then entered the US Navy. Jim severed for 2 years until he was wounded during a training exercise and was medically discharged in 1962. He moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area in 1973. Jim worked in the hvac field until he retired from American Greetings. He moved back to the Columbus area in early 2000s.
Jim was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He loved boating and traveling. His greatest passion was flower gardening. He took great pride in the prettiest and most unique flowers he could find.
Jim is survived wife, of over 50 years, Kathryn, daughter Kelly, grandchildren Brittany, Courtney, Tiffany, and Tyler, sisters Peggy and Eileen, numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by parents Paul and Margaret, daughter Theresa, siblings Richard, Patricia, and Donna.
Jim will be cremated. There will be no service or memorial, per his wishes. His ashes will be scattered in Alaska, his favorite place, later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project.
