Jay (Johnnie) Thompson Jr., 47, of Galena, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He grew up in Lewis Center, Ohio.
Jay was devoted to his children above all else, finding his greatest joy in being their father and loving each of them deeply. A lifelong lover of sports, he spent countless hours coaching in the Big Walnut community and cheering others on, and he bled scarlet and gray as a passionate Ohio State Buckeyes football fan. He also had a deep love for cars, especially car audio, whether working on them, talking about them, or simply admiring a great build.
Jay is survived by his father, Johnnie Thompson (75); his children, Taylor (20) and Noah (17); his spouse, Sara Thompson (46); and his brother, Michael Thompson (51).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rhodella Browning Thompson; his brother, William Thompson; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Faye Thompson; and his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Ella Browning.
Jay was always willing to help a friend, and his generosity and loyalty touched everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of family, his competitive spirit, and the passion he brought to everything and everyone he cared about. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Ceremony of Life will be held on Sunday, September 6th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Glens Sports Barn, 11283 Fancher Rd, Westerville, OH 43082.
