Jerry Alan Southall

May 26, 1962 — Sep 11, 2026

Jerry Alan Southall, age 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Jerry fought a courageous battle with ALS while maintaining his sense of humor. With the help of his Gaze device and assistive technology, he continued to manage home projects, have conversations, joke around, and encourage his grandchildren.

Jerry was born in Columbus, Ohio, on May 26, 1962, to Margery Bland Southall and Ronald Gary Southall. He was one of four children. He grew up in the Columbus area and completed his apprenticeship with the Plumbers and Pipefitters in 1990. Throughout his career, his eyes would light up when talking about managing a crane lift or rigging special equipment—he truly loved the challenge and creativity of a successful project.

After retiring in 2019, Jerry provided full-time care for his grandson, Dawson. Unable to sit still for long, he was soon teaching Dawson about home repair and remodeling. He thoroughly enjoyed this time and loved helping others with their homecare needs.

Jerry cherished spending time outdoors with family and friends. Whether catching a sunrise over the ocean, taking a long bike ride through Whetstone Park, rollerblading, playing softball, or walking around the neighborhood, he absorbed the beauty around him. He always pointed out the sound of the birds or the peace of a snow-covered neighborhood. Jerry also had a special talent for spotting four-leaf clovers, which he frequently shared with those around him.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Rachel; children Megan (Steve) Jones, Jerry (Sarah) Southall, and Michelle (Steven) Nunn; grandchildren Aiden, Ollie, Sawyer, Levi, and Dawson Southall, and Mia Nunn. Jerry is survived by numerous other family members and his faithful dog, Molly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margery, in June 2026.
