Jimmie Doris (Mann) Looney passed peacefully away September 28, 2023 at the age of 99. Born to Sidney Vibert Mann and Ruby Lee Mann on March 9, 1924. Jimmie lived her entire life in Ohio. She married Jack Looney in 1946. Jack preceded her death in 2015. Jimmie had one brother, Sidney JR. who also preceded her in passing.
Jimmie was a remarkably strong and independent woman, living independently in Grove City until her passing. She was a full-time mother raising her children born in 1948, 1949, 1950, and 1951, until all the children started attending school. She then became an elementary school teacher until her retirement. Perhaps the most endearing and identifiable feature was Jimmie's smile, followed quickly by her response to anyone asking how she was... "I Are Fine (And Dandy). Exposed to music by her mother, it became a passion... something that she passed along to her children. Jimmie was an alto's alto and could harmonize with the best of them. She played the piano and learned guitar to be able to accompany her students. She was active in the local Community Workshop Players, tackling roles well into her 70's and 80's. She loved playing bridge and did so consistently even through this year.
Jimmie was a beautiful, caring mother of three daughters and one son. Linda, the eldest daughter preceded her in death. Jimmie is survived by a loving family that included daughter, Lauren Ann Shelly, son, Craig (Kathy) and daughter, Lisa (David) Murphey; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn rd, Grove City, Ohio 43213. Friends may greet the family in the church dining room immediately following the service where a luncheon will be serviced. Online condolences may be shared at shaw-davis.com.
