It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Jo Ellen (Valentino) Minturn. Born on January 20, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio, she departed this world peacefully on March 31, 2026 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, leaving a legacy of love, generosity, and steadfast faith.
Preceded in death are her parents, Walter and Josephine Valentino, she was a loyal, passionate, soul with a wonderful sense of humor and wit. A proud Valedictorian of her nursing class, she dedicated her life to the service of others, not only through her professional endeavors but also in her personal life. She loved cooking for her family and friends. Her compassion and generosity knew no bounds. Her legendary gift giving especially during the Christmas season, mirrored her thoughtfulness and consideration of others that were her trademarks. Preceded in death was her dear sister Nikki Valentino.
Married for 54 years to her soulmate the late, Douglas Minturn, they met when they were ages, four and five, living on the same street. Their enduring love story created a tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Her love of entertaining, shopping, and cooking brought joy to her life, and she was known for being a consummate hostess and unwavering in her faith. She started in youth ministry leadership. She taught Sunday School for many years, led worship services, and embraced her role as a Pastor’s wife with dedication and care. She loved being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren.
Jo is survived by her loving children, Lisa (Todd) Rinehart and Bennee (Becky) Minturn who carry forward her legacy of love and faith. Her grandsons; Anthony (Samantha), Chance, Chace, Cade, and great granddaughter, Aaliyah, and great grandson Kayden were the apples of her eye. She doted on them with much love and affection. Her “get in church and stay in church” motto will be echoed in our hearts forever. We will cherish the memories of her and life lessons she imparted. Survived by her sisters; Vicki, Kathy, Julie, Nancy, and Bonnie, along with their families, will dearly miss her.
In this time of grief, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Champion Church, Pastor Charlie and Kristy Friend and Bishop Eric and Bonnie Smith, and Riverside Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion for Mom and her family. We will find solace in a celebration of life ceremony with details forthcoming.
