LEYH

Jo Ann (“Jody”) Detwiler Leyh, 87, formerly of Jeannette, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Kobacker House hospice facility in Columbus, Ohio. She was born April 5, 1928 in Jeannette, daughter of the late John Homer and Effie Blanche Shaffer Detwiler. She was a graduate of the Jeannette High School class of 1946 and a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ in Jeannette. She had a playschool for children in her home for many years and found great joy in being loved as “Miss Jody.” She also faithfully volunteered for many years at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg where she led a Monday night sing-a-long for residents.

Although she moved to Dublin, Ohio to live with her daughter and family in 2009, Jody remained close with her lifelong friends. In Dublin, she continued to stay involved in her grandchildren’s games and events. She made new, cherished friends and became an adopted “Grandma Jody” to many neighborhood children and kids that she babysat. Her love of life and laughter, giving spirit, countless jokes and positive attitude will be greatly missed.

Sisters Margaret Lee Detwiler Brinkley, Mary Lou Detwiler Caruso, and brothers Albert Clinton Detwiler and Homer Woodrow Detwiler precede her in death. She is survived by sister Doris Jane Detwiler Palien and brother-in-law Julian; children Tom Leyh and his wife Joanne; Amy Striker and her husband Bill; grandchildren Joe and wife Ashley; Emily, Kaitlin and Adam. She also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Kayla and Mason as well as nieces, nephews and her grand dogs.

Jody’s life will be celebrated at New Hope Church in Powell, Ohio on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 2pm.
