John Hassey, lovingly known as "Pal," age 79, went home to be with his Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ. He was born on March 23, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, where he lived his entire life. John loved the Lord with all his heart, and he loved his family with the same unwavering devotion. He made sure everyone around him knew both. He was known for his loyalty, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. John's greatest desire was to honor Jesus and bless others. Everyone who entered his life became more than a friend; they became family. He delighted in gathering people around the table, always making sure there was plenty of food and that they were taken care of.
He worked wholeheartedly in everything he did. John had a successful career, serving as President of Sears Franchising for more than 25 years. He was deeply respected and loved by those who had the privilege of working alongside him. A faithful member of Genoa Church, John joyfully worshipped the Lord and cherished fellowship with his mentor and dear friend, Pastor Frank Carl.
Family was John's greatest earthly joy. He and his beloved wife, Linda, shared 57 years together, with Christ at the center of their marriage. John was an outstanding father to Lori Snedecor (Kurt) and Lisa Raikes (Steve). John was the proud and loving "Pal" to his treasured grandchildren: Nikalena (Emerson), Alanna (Conner), Ryan (Kara), Elia, Luke, and Hobie. Just two days before his passing, he experienced the joy of meeting his first great-grandchild, Lucia Marie. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He wanted to be wherever they were, faithfully praying for each of them and intentionally creating memories they would carry forever. He never missed a game, birthday, performance, or holiday, and he had a remarkable gift for making even the most ordinary day feel extraordinary. He always said “Put Jesus first, and then your familia.”
John is survived by his brother and best friend, Jim Hassey ("Bro"), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Steve (Sally) and Rick (Cathy) Biancone. John is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and John Hassey, and mother-in-law Irene Biancone and sister-in-law Janet Bauch.
John lived a life fully surrendered to Christ, faithfully served as His ambassador, and carried the love of Jesus by making people feel seen and special. The legacy he leaves is a life built on God’s Word. His favorite scripture was Romans 8:28 ”And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” We eagerly await the day when we will be reunited with John in the presence of the Lord, together forever.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Genoa Church. Visiting Hours will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and the service will begin at 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to two ministries that were especially dear to John’s heart: Finish Line Ministries International where two of his grandchildren work and LifeWise Academy where his son-in-law is on staff.
