Judiann S. Hounchell

February 27, 1950 — September 29, 2025

Judiann Stephanie Hounchell, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Columbus, Ohio, on September 29, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on February 27, 1950, in Columbus, Judi lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering strength.

Judi's career spanned numerous organizations, including Nationwide Insurance, Lane Bryant at Eastland Mall, and R'H Harrington. She proudly retired from Ohio State University Hospital after dedicating 30 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Those who knew her often remarked upon her strong work ethic and the care she exhibited for everyone she encountered.

A graduate of Mifflin High School in 1968, Judi was not only an advocate in her professional life but also a devoted family woman. She treasured her time spent with her children: Alice Farley, Amanda Hyle (David Hyle), Melissa Napier, Stephen Napier (Stephanie Snyder), and Paul Hounchell (Brittany Hounchell). As a grandmother to Brandon Page, Jordan Hyle (Elizabeth Matheny), Lenzie Mason, and Charles Napier, and as a great-grandmother to Jaydien Howard, Jaxson Hyle, Isabella Hyle, and Jameson Hyle, Judi poured love and joy into every moment they shared together.

Judi's interests were as vibrant as her spirit. She delighted in spending her time hanging out with her children and grandchildren, engaging in heartfelt conversations over the phone, expressing her creativity through crocheting and knitting, enjoying concerts and overall music lover. Her passion for family heritage shone brightly, and she loved to dive into good books or enjoy a thrilling football game—always proudly cheering for her beloved Buckeyes.

Her family will remember her as their strong protector, a loving warrior who faced life's challenges with grace and resilience. The memories they shared are countless, woven together with laughter and warmth—a testament to her legacy of love.

Judi's life was touched by the love of her siblings, James Blackson (Patti Blackson) and Janice Blackson, as well as cherished nieces and nephews: Katey Teale, Steven Blackson, Breanna Carter, Matthew Blackson, Zoey Edwards, and Dakota Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and BonnaGene Blackson, her sibling, Joann Blackson, and her beloved grandparents, James and Eva Blackson and Frank and Fern Liggett.

As we gather to celebrate her remarkable journey, we find it difficult to say goodbye. Instead, we hold onto her memory tightly, knowing that this is not truly farewell, but rather, “see you later.”

Visitation will take place on October 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a Funeral Service following at 12:00 PM at Short North Chapel, located at 34 West 2nd Avenue, Columbus, OH, 43201. A second visitation will be held later that day from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Judi's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved, reminding us all of the profound impact one life can have on others.
