Karen L. Cooper

Karen L. Cooper, 70, of Heath, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Karen shared her life with her beloved husband, Phil Rutter. She was a devoted mother to Rocky Akers (April Cunningham), Shawn (Tabitha) Akers, Crystal Akers, Michael (Amber) Akers, and Ronnie (Jennifer) Akers. She was also a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

Karen lived life to the fullest and embraced every opportunity to make memories. She loved spending time with friends playing bingo, trying her luck with lottery tickets and slot machines, and making every outing an adventure. She was a dedicated Ohio State Buckeyes fan and looked forward to cheering on her team every football season. Myrtle Beach held a special place in her heart, and she loved visiting the ocean whenever she could. Dolphins were her favorite animal and always brought a smile to her face.

More than anything, Karen treasured her family. She loved hosting family gatherings where everyone could come together, laugh, and enjoy one another's company. Karen never met a stranger—she could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome. She had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Karen was known for speaking her mind, living as a true free spirit, and embracing spontaneity. Her honesty, kindness, adventurous nature, and unforgettable personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Though she will be deeply missed, Karen's love, laughter, and the countless memories she created with family and friends will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

A celebration of Karen's life will be held at Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes 34 W 2nd Ave. Columbus, OH 43201 on July 30th, 1:00pm - 3:00pm. The family asks that those who knew and loved Karen remember her by gathering with family, sharing stories, cheering on the Buckeyes, or simply performing an act of kindness in her memory.
