Kelly Cumbo Jr. died peacefully in his home on August 17, 2015 in Whitehall, Ohio at the age of 87. Kelly is survived by his wife of 23 years, Maggie; children, Mitch (Elvie), Tammy (Michael) Makar, Bettina Shannon and Tracey Pennell; siblings, Andy (Lydia), Dean (Annie), Charles (Brenda), James (Dixie) and Josephine; grandchildren, Kelly (Miranda), Karlee, Megan (Matt) Bobo, Stephanie, Patti, Samantha Makar and Ashley Lowe and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kelly is preceded in death by siblings, Pauline, Marie, Gin, Amos, Stewart; sons, Bryon (Jackie) and Bradley (Kim); granddaughter, Jenny Miller.
Kelly was born on the 24th day of November 1927 in Davilla, Kentucky to Kelly Cumbo Sr. and Corda Cumbo. Kelly proudly served in the US Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge, Kelly returned to the Columbus area and began working for Rockwell International as an aircraft assembler. Kelly rose to a supervisory role and was particularly proud of his contributions in the construction of America's great technological marvel, the Space Shuttle. He was an accomplished technician and mechanic who so dearly loved his family and country. A proud father and true patriot. The family will receive friends August 20th 2015 at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, 4341 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43214 beginning at 4:00.  Dr. Joel Baer will officiate the memorial at 6:00 with a reception to immediately follow.
