Kenneth Kober

Nov 9, 1948 — Sep 28, 2026

Kenneth Kober, born November 9, 1948, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Cora Kober, and his brother, Rick.

Ken leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories with his life partner, Betty; his children, Dennis Kober (Kelly), and Christy Apple (Jonathan); his grandchildren, Aerial, Ashley, Blake (Belinda), Christian, Nathan, and Spencer; and his first great grandchild, Silas. He is also survived by four of his brothers, Chuck, Jeff, Phil, and Tom.

Ken was raised in Arizona and attended Sunnyslope High School where he was the class clown. His humor won over Betty, and they began dating their senior year in High School. They later relocated to both Colorado and Texas before ultimately finding their lifetime home in Gahanna, Ohio. He built a long career as an HVAC engineer, spending the final 20 years of his career as a proud co-owner of Tykco Engineering.

Ken loved golf, and he could often be found at the Gahanna Golf Course pursuing his favorite hobby. But for Ken, the best part of golf was never just the game. It was the many golf buddies who became such an important part of his life.

In his later years, Ken loved working in the yard and took great satisfaction in keeping his lawn meticulously mowed and weed-free. He could often be found in his favorite recliner with his dog, Tucker, and grand dog, Hartlyn, on his lap while watching a western movie.

But without question, Ken’s greatest joy and greatest role in life was being a grandfather. He cherished every moment he could spend with his grandchildren—picking them up from school, showing up for their countless activities, hosting family dinners, sharing corny jokes, and even once taking on the role of an unqualified barber. Those moments, big and small, were the ones that brought him the most happiness.

Ken was happiest when he was surrounded by his family, and there was no place he loved more than a ballfield. For more than 15 years, his weekends were spent cheering from the sidelines, coaching baseball alongside his son, and proudly supporting every one of his grandchildren. He was their coach, their biggest fan, their chauffeur, their supporter, and, most importantly, their Grandpa. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

Even as the cruel disease of dementia slowly took away pieces of his memory and precious time with the people he cared for, the love Ken had for his family never disappeared. The memories he carried with him—especially those made with his grandchildren—remained a source of comfort and joy.

Ken leaves behind a family who will miss his presence more than words can express, but who will carry his love, his goofy sense of humor, and his memory with them always. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

There will be a private family service, followed by a Celebration of Life at New Albany Links Golf Club at 2pm on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity that is meaningful to you in Ken’s memory.
