Kenneth “Ken” D. McKinney, 66, died peacefully on July 9, 2023 at the OSU James Cancer Hospital surrounded by his daughters, son in law, and a few family and friends.
Ken was a proud retiree of the United States Army. Serving 20 years of active duty and retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class E7 in 1994. Ken was a mechanic for the Army and received many certifications, recognitions, and awards for the work he did. After retiring from the military Ken took to the open road and drove Tractor Trailer around the country for many years. During his many years with both his Army and driving careers Ken got the opportunity to travel, seeing most of the United States, Germany, Korea, Holland, and Canada amongst others. Ken officially retired from the work force in 2012 giving him time to spend with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Ken was an avid fisherman, camper, bowler, and OSU football fan. He loved to share the stories, knowledge, and passion of his many adventures with those around him. Ken was an inspiration for all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born August 11, 1956 to Donald E. and Wynona M. (Klies) McKinney in Zanesville Ohio. He was the oldest of 6 children.
Ken was proceeded in death by his father Donald E. McKinney, mother Wynona M. (Klies) McKinney, sister Patricia L. (McKinney) Birtcher, son in law James A. Jarvis, and many others.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa A. (Tom) Deskins, Amanda M. McKinney, and Stacey R. (Eddie) Lazzell, Grandchildren, Autumn H. McKinney, Kalin T. Deskins, Gabby I. White, Emmalee A. Hunter, Sidney E. White, Dakota M. Hunter, and Jenna L. Lazzell, Siblings Karl McKinney, Dawn Williams, Kris (Jerry) Green, Bobby McKinney, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Services for Ken will be held on Sunday July 16, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Calling hours from 2:00pm to 3:00pm and a service with military honors to follow from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.
