Larry David Burgess

Larry David Burgess of Columbus, OH , passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026 at the age of 78. He was born on June 20, 1948 to Warren & Myrtle Burgess in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, he moved back to Columbus to start a musical teaching career with Columbus City Schools. He married Colleen in 1970, and together they shared 56 wonderful years. Larry enjoyed the arts from painting to playing saxophone & clarinet. He was a member of the Westerville Art League in the 90’s. But his passion was playing in many bands throughout the years including Buckeye Brass and Primary Colors who opened for some notable performers. He was very active in Aladdin Shrine bands including Concert, Dixieland, and Dance bands. Later in life he played in the worship team at Westerville Christian Church and was known for busking (street performing) with his saxophone on the corner in front of Graeter’s ice cream in uptown Westerville Ohio. He was part of the Crusaders Bible study group at Westerville Christian Church. He spent his last two years in the nurturing hands of the team at Sage Park Memory Care and Suncrest Hospice. He is preceded in death by his parents Warren & Myrtle Burgess. He is survived by his wife Colleen, siblings Terry (Lora) Burgess, Mary Jo Warsinsky, daughters Michelle (Khris) Rogers, Erin (Brian) Wallace, grandchildren Maddy Wallace, Korynn Triplett, Gavin Wallace, Lily Rogers, Ian Wallace, Reese (Anna Priedeman) Rogers, Kindu Rogers, and several great-grand children, nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews. Visitation and celebration of life will be held at ChristChurch-Westerville at 471 E College Ave, on Saturday, August 15th from 1:30-2:30pm, with a service immediately following at 2:30pm.
