Laura Ann Jacobs

March 2, 1950 — December 8, 2025

Worthington, Ohio

Laura Ann Jacobs (1950-2025)

Laura Ann Jacobs of Worthington, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025. Born Laura Ann Klock in Chestertown, Maryland. Laura spent the better part of her childhood in Toms River, New Jersey where she was raised by her mother Jean Kinlin (Chester) and father, John Chester alongside her younger brothers Edward and Joseph Chester.

In September, 1987, Laura married John Jacobs of Mt. Vernon and in March, 1989 they welcomed their beloved daughter Alison Courtney Jacobs (Stephenson). In 1999, Laura, John and Ali relocated from Yorktown Heights, New York, where Laura worked in real estate development in Manhattan, to Worthington, Ohio.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Laura quickly understood the extraordinary woman that she was. Her ever calming presence radiated compassion, generosity, and a deep kindness that made all people or animals feel seen and cared for. Laura had an instinctive way of stepping in when others were in need, often putting their needs before her own, without a second thought. Over the years, she rescued and nurtured countless dogs, cats, and other animals, each one forever changed by her loving touch.

Laura’s deep love for animals is what led her to her husband, John. Their paths crossed on the Northeast dog show circuit, and from the beginning, their shared devotion to their animals became the foundation of their life together. Laura’s final rescue, Dusty, remained faithfully by her side, a quiet and comforting presence that brought her peace and companionship. Their bond was a reflection of the kindness and love Laura gave so freely throughout her life.

Although Laura’s affinity for animals is well documented, her friends and family know that her real passion was her daughter Ali, and her grandchildren Cael and Leona Stephenson. “Amma” as she is known to them, had a hard time saying “no” as she would spoil them to no end. Holidays with her grandchildren were always marked by the abundance of gifts, laughter, and love. She loved nothing greater than seeing her grandchildren and daughter smile and laugh.

Laura loved visiting her brothers and family. Making trips to New Jersey with her daughter Ali, and grandchildren gave her great joy, as she was able to share many fond memories of her childhood and family with those she held closest. Trips to the Jersey Shore, and around the backroads of Toms River always gave way to stories of growing up with her brothers, riding horses and spending time on the Ocean.

Laura Ann Jacobs was preceded in death by her mother, Jean, and father, John. Laura is survived by her loving husband, John, daughter Ali (Caleb Stephenson), grandchildren Cael and Leona Stephenson. Brothers Joe (Sharon) Chester and Ed (Tina) Chester. Brothers-in-Law Andy (Cathy) Jacobs, and Roger (Maria) Jacobs, along with extended Jacobs and Chester families.

In lieu of a traditional service, a Celebration of Life will be announced by the family at a later date. To honor Laura, any gifts can be directed to the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY or the beautiful Kobacker House, in Columbus Ohio, where the staff cared for Laura and her family with compassion in her final days.
