Lavonne Ellen Strickland

Lavonne Ellen Strickland (née Linden) passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2026 in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her children. She will be remembered for the love, kindness, and warmth she shared with her family and all who knew her.

Lavonne was born September 23, 1941 in Aurora, Illinois, to Lila Reese and Carl Linden.

She dedicated more than 30 years of her life to working at Justin Boots in Fort Worth, Texas, where she was known for her strong work ethic and commitment. Her work family became lifelong friends.

Lavonne loved spending time with her family, especially playing games and enjoying laughter-filled moments together. She also enjoyed shopping and took great pride in her elegant style and love of dressing up, which earned her the affectionate nickname “Fancy Grandma.”

She was a deeply caring person who was always willing to help others in need, whether volunteering with community groups, assisting a neighbor, or supporting a friend during difficult times.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Strickland; her mother, Lila Reese; her father, Carl Linden; her sister, Bonnie Jean Womack; and her brother, Larry Linden.

She is survived by her family, including her son, Tony Waxman; her daughter, Tammy Waxman; and her son, Jim Reese, as well as her adored 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Lavonne’s life was defined by her devotion to her family, her generous spirit, and the kindness she showed to others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her, and in the many lives she touched.
