Marie Vanderhill

November 16, 1936 — April 2, 2020

Marie was born in Lorain, OH and grew up in Shaker Heights, OH. She was a devout Catholic and entered the convent at the age of 13.  When she left the convent, her family moved to Sandusky. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1954 where she was a member of the French club, Latin club, and the Chemistry club. Born into a musical family, her father was a music teacher in the Catholic Diocese and Marie enjoyed singing in the church choir. She carried her love of music with her even up until the late stages of her life when she still sang the words to her favorite songs.  She married Carl LaMarca in the late 1950’s and had 4 children.  She began her career working for the Sandusky Police Department as a secretary to the Chief of Police.  In 1970 she married Fred VanderHill and moved to Columbus, Ohio. There she started working in the insurance industry for Turner and Shepherd, where she worked as the first female sales agent until her retirement in 1998. Upon retiring, she moved to Delray Beach, Florida and lived with her partner of 20 years Henry “Pete” Maki.  In 2014 she returned to Columbus to live out her retirement with her 4 children and grandson.  Marie was often referred to as a friend to everyone and she will be missed by many, but we know her deep faith in God will allow her to rest in eternal peace.

Marie is preceded in death by her Father, Frank J. Mackert, Mother, Rose A. Mackert, Sisters: Rosemary Petro, Marcella A. Largent, Cecilia Ann Mackert.
