PRICE (SCHAD), MARLENE
Marlene Schad Price, age 89, of Columbus, formerly of Worthington, devoted wife, mom, Gram, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her body died Saturday, Jan. 31 at home.
Survived by beloved husband of 67 wonderful years: Dr. John E. (Jack) Price; cherished children: Pam (Ted) Thompson, Todd (Susan) Price, Cathe (Glenn) Moog; treasured grandchildren: Kyle and Natalie Moog, Trevor Thompson; 7 nieces and nephews and her long-time friends. Preceded in death by her talented brother: Fred M. (Beth) Schad.
Marlene was born in Glen Dale, West Virgina. As a teen, her family moved to Columbus, settling in Clintonville. She graduated from Columbus North High School (1954) and received her Bachelors in Business Administration from The Ohio State University (1958), where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
During her working career, Marlene was media director for her brother’s medical advertising agency and bookkeeper for her husband’s orthodontic practice. Member of North High School Women’s Alumnae Association, OSU Alumni Association, many years at First Community Church and later, Maple Grove United Methodist Church. Marlene fondly remembered her years with Worthington Songsters. As a volunteer, she served on Buckeye Boys Ranch Board of Trustees and Service Board, organized fundraising and support for Alpha Xi Delta, edited numerous newsletters and managed publicity for various organizations.
Marlene was the first American woman to have kidney stones removed by lithotripsy at the site of the treatment’s development, Klinikum Groshadern, Munich, Germany, in 1982. Following the procedure, she appeared on TV, was featured in the Saturday Evening Post, became secretary of the National Kidney Stone Formers’ Organization and communicated globally with potential patients seeking treatment.
Marlene was an avid reader throughout her life, novice poet, music lover, flower gardener, birder, needle pointer and enthusiastic Buckeye fan. Marlene’s greatest joy came from her precious grandchildren. As her husband, Jack, was a private pilot, the family enjoyed many flights throughout the U.S. and the Bahamas. She felt blessed to have spent winters on Sanibel Island, Florida and summers at Torch Lake, Michigan with Jack.
Marlene’s family extends immense gratitude to B.R. at Compassus (formerly OhioHealth Hospice) for his exceptional care during her final weeks and days. Marlene’s family will celebrate her life at their special place in the woods at Torch Lake this summer.
