Matthew Gavin Norman

Doc" Gavin Norman, age 71, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away July 4th, 2026 after a brief illness.

Mathew was born September 30, 1954 in Harrisburg, PA to Wilma I Metzger and William M Norman.

He is survived by sister, Holly (Norman) Jones and by husband (29 years), Doug Mezzanotte, step-children: Mark Mezzanotte, Danielle (Mezzanotte) Clark, of Connecticut and 5 grandchildren.

Graduated from Georgetown University (bachelors), Ohio State University (Masters/PhD) and retired from AEP after 33 years of service.

Matthew was a master gardener throughout his adult life. He loved to tend to his garden and feed the neighborhood birds daily, especially hummingbirds.

He worked for various local charities throughout his 40 years living in Columbus. He was well loved by all his friends and family. He was known for his sharp wit and great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his friends in Columbus, especially his second family at Club Diversity

In lieu of flowers, Matthew wanted donations to local no-kill animal shelters.
