Max S. Katzenbach, age 92 of Canal Winchester Ohio passed from this life into God’s great kingdom on September 22, 2025.
Max was born on September 6, 1933 in New Marshfield, Ohio to the late Jacob & Goldie (Hicks) Katzenbach.
Max graduated from Waterloo High School in 1951. He was a star athlete where he excelled in basketball, baseball and track. After graduation he attended Ohio University and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953. Upon completing a two-year tour of duty he came home and met and married Merle F. Jolley while attending Ohio University. They moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1956 where he worked at Dresser-Ideco, The Ohio State University Research Foundation and retired from the US Geological Survey (Department of Interiors) Water Resources Division after 31 years.
Max was an avid fisherman on Lake Erie where he caught many FISH OHIO walleye and shared his catches with many friends, while also sharing his faith. Max was a devout Servant of God, and member of Worthington Christian Church for 48 years where he served a Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Board. He was a greeter at the front door with a smile on his face every Sunday for over 25 years and always cared for the growth of one’s faith.
Max survived by his wife of 69 years Merle (Jolley) Katzenbach, son Mark Katzenbach, grandsons Mitchell Dollery (Jennifer) and Shawn Thomas, great grandsons Micah Dollery and Malik Dollery, nephews and nieces, Marvin and Barb Dollery, Chad and Mary Kennedy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Marcia (Katzenbach) Dollery and Melonie Jo Katzenbach, sisters Dolores (Katzenbach) Elliott (Howard) and Iris (Katzenbach) Hartman (Leonard).
