Melody and Richard Fairchild II

After 56 years of marriage, Richard (Rick) Fairchild II, 76, and Melody Fairchild, 77, passed away exactly two months apart. Rick fought heart disease and cancer for many years and peacefully passed on January 22, 2024. Melody was a cancer survivor, but it came back more aggressively until she quietly departed on March 22, 2024. Both spent their last few days at Kobacker House Hospice where they worked assiduously to make them comfortable.

Melody and Rick both graduated from Mifflin High School in 1965, where they were high school sweethearts and voted Best All Around. They were happily married in 1968.

In addition to caring for her home and family, over the years Melody worked in the medical field, and owned a coffee shop. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and quilting.

Rick was drafted to the marines in 1969. After he was discharged, he attended, and graduated from, the Ohio State University. He worked in sales and enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing poker. Both were active in the Church, volunteered for several organizations, loved watching OSU games together, and enjoyed spending time with their family. They spent their time between their homes in Apple Valley, Ohio, and Bradenton, Florida.

Grateful for having shared in Rick and Melody’s lives are their two daughters Tiffany and her husband Doug, Renée and her husband Steve, and their son Ryan, plus their two grandchildren Tara and her husband Tre and Tristan.

Rick and Melody were friends to everyone and took great pride in their family. They both spent a life time caring and providing for them. Their proudest accomplishments were the successes of their children and grandchildren. They both loved attending all of their events, whether it was dance, track, soccer, roller derby, they were there cheering. Together they enjoyed baking, making soups, caring for their animals, and doting on their loved ones. Their presence will be deeply missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to OhioHealth Hospice Care, Kobacker House, Columbus Ohio.
