Michael Alan Geiser, 68, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on June 15, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael lived a life defined by service, technical expertise, and unwavering independence.
A proud graduate of Nathan Hale High School’s Class of 1975, Michael went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. His early passion for computer gaming and programming laid the groundwork for his career in Field Automation Services. As technology evolved, so did Michael—always learning, always adapting.
Michael served honorably in the United States Navy for eight years as an Electrician's Mate First Class (EM1), specializing as a Surface Ship Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor. His dedication and skill earned him numerous commendations, including the First Good Conduct Medal for Service, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, two Battle "E" Ribbons, and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. His time in the Navy took him across oceans and introduced him to cultures that enriched his worldview and expanded his palate. He appreciated cuisines from all over the world and enjoyed going to restaurants to try new things and revisit old favorites.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael found joy in books and music. He passed on an appreciation of the Tulsa Sound and the rich musical history of his hometown and a love for all kinds of music. His personal collection included rock, folk, funk, heavy metal and even a little classical by way of a Moog synthesizer in the often played favorite Switched on Bach, which he always replaced when changing formats from vinyl to cassette and eventually CDs. His daughter and son-in-law fondly remember attending his last show, a Vets Aid benefit concert, where he endured a Nine Inch Nails set in order to witness the James Gang’s Last Ride. The hooded sweatshirt from that night became a favorite during the chilly Ohio winters that he never quite got used to.
Michael frequently enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of NCIS, which became a comforting routine in his daily life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Neil Geiser and his brother-in-law Terry Houston. He is survived by his daughter Chandra Geiser, her husband Nick Wilkenson, and her sister Wendy Smith; his sisters Shanna Houston and Carla Hanes and brother-in-law Keith Hanes; and many nieces and nephews whose lives he quietly celebrated.
In remembrance of Michael's life and service to his country, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to VetsAid or your local agencies directly assisting veterans.
