Mildred Todd

April 12, 1928 — September 11, 2021

Mildred Ernestine Todd (Brewer), 93 years of age, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:50pm.

Mildred (or Millie as some knew her) was born April 12, 1928, in Racine along side of the Ohio River to Ernest Brewer and Elsie Mae Brewer (Bush). She was the second oldest of five daughters. In May 1945, she graduated from Racine High School and later moved to Columbus, OH taking her first job as an Ohio Bell operator.

George Todd noticed her living in the OSU campus area and won her over after many attempts by coming to her door one evening with a serenade he personally wrote and sang for her. They married on September 18, 1949.

Mildred took some time off to raise her 3 children but went back to work at Capital City Products home of the Dixie, also known as, AC Humko, Pepsico, and others. She worked there until she retired 33 years later.  In retirement, she worked part-time at the Harrison House Bed & Breakfast for many years until it closed.

Mildred was a child of God, Baptized May 16, 1943, at Morse Chapel Methodist Church.  She was a long time member of the 4th Ave Christian Church and First Brethren in Columbus, OH.  She was also an active member of the Harrison West community just outside of Victorian Village.

Mildred enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers (she had nearly 1000!), hosting family and friends, playing cards, crocheting and playing hymns on her piano. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, reading and even tending to her beautiful garden through the age of 92. She will forever be known for baking 100’s of cookies (especially Buckeyes!) and lavish decorations for Christmas every year.  Regardless of her great recipes and cooking abilities, nothing satiated her like a warm cup of black coffee, beef bologna and saltine crackers which were the recipe to her longevity.

Mildred is preceded in death by father Ernest Brewer and mother Mae Brewer; husband George Julian Todd; children Nava Jo Couch, James ‘Moose’ Todd and Vanessa Todd; sisters Ethel Gloeckner (John), Sylvia Brewer, Deloris Harrap (Bob). Survived by her sister Lucille Lawrence (Rollin-deceased); grandchildren Jimmy Todd, Zach Couch, Tai Couch and Danielle Todd. Also, many loving nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren (5).

Her family has decided to respect her wishes by not having a public funeral service and will be celebrating her life privately with close family.

In Lieu of flowers, the family recommends considering donations to St. Jude’s which she donated to regularly, 4th Ave Christian Church, or even your preferred 9-11 charity given the 20th anniversary and the date of her passing.
