Miriam “Mim” Reitz Strait passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, at The Bickford of Worthington in Columbus, Ohio.Mim was a native of Grandview, Ohio and graduated from Grandview Heights High School in 1953 and attended THE Ohio State University studying Art History.
Mim was married to Wayne St. John in 1955. They raised their family of 5 in Grandview and Upper Arlington Ohio. They divorced in 1978.In 1980, Mim reconnect with her high school sweetheart, Robert Richard “Dick” Strait, and they married on Valentine’s Day, 1981. After marrying, Mim and Dick spent more than 30 years living in Indiana, Texas, Michigan, and Ohio through Mim's career as an administrative assistant. She held roles with the State of Ohio, was the administrative assistant to Lt. Governor Mutz of Indiana, worked for law firms and chemical companies in Houston, TX, and held positions at Miami Valley Hospital, The Columbus Zoo, and The Salvation Army after moving back to Ohio.
When Dick retired, Mim and Dick traveled throughout the United States in their RV, visiting family and friends and admiring the splendor of America. They were active with Operation Buckeye and spent many hours gathering donations to ship personal items and treats to US troops stationed overseas. Mim cared for Dick through his terminal illness and was widowed in 2017.Mim was active in conservative politics and referred to herself as "a political animal".
She was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeye football team and cheered their 2025 victory over TTUN. Mim had a strong Christian faith and rejoiced in the knowledge that she would spend eternity in heaven with Jesus. Mim was preceded in death by husband, Dick, her parents, Ross and Miriam Reitz Lottridge, and her siblings, Alicia Rickert and George Lottridge.
Mim is survived by her sister, Margart "Mitzi" Travis of St. Petersburg, FL; her children Alicia (Jim) Holloway of Roanoke, VA; Greg (Kim) St. John of Marengo, OH; April (Dave S. Burt) St. John of Louisville, KY; Melanie (David) Riley of Tupelo, MS; and Melissa Smart (Phil Norman) of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by numerous beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, nieces and nephews, as well as her lifelong family friend, Patricia “Aunt Pat” Barr. Mim fiercely loved and was incredibly proud of her family.
Mim's family extends warm gratitude to the loving caregivers at The Bickford of Worthington Memory Care and National Church Residences Hospice Services. Family and friends are invited to an open house to celebrate Mim’s life on April 13 from 1-4 at 294 Wetmore Rd., Columbus, OH 43214.
