Nellie Berry Stanley passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the age of 90 in Columbus, Ohio. She is preceded in death by husbands Byron “Barney” Berry and Richard Stanley, sisters Marvine and Daisy, and brother Paul. Nellie is survived by her daughter Susan Andrews (Mike) and son Brian Berry (Sue), grandchildren Jenny Taylor (Ian), Jake Berry (Katie), Collin Berry, and great grandchildren Cecelia and June Taylor.
Nellie was born on May 11, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in the Bottoms on the near west side of Columbus. She married Byron Berry in 1953 and started working at Huntington National Bank. Nellie worked in the Proof department and was trained to work on this “new thing” called the IBM machine. She worked at Huntington until the 1990’s, taking off a few years to raise children.
Nellie enjoyed traveling throughout Ohio and surrounding states. Mackinac Island, Hilton Head and Amish country were some of her favorites. She traveled to all the original Big 10 football stadiums, but never attended an Ohio State home game. Always good with numbers, Nellie was balancing her checkbook and tracking her budget on a monthly, sometimes daily basis. She was a favorite partner to have playing Euchre and was insulted to hear “you’d be a great Poker player with your love of numbers and math skills”.
Nellie loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Until recently, she would get them 25 small gifts at Christmas so they could open one each day. Any dog was always welcome at her house; George and Ellie are going to miss her visits and treats.
Customer Service and Quality Control departments are going to be a lot quieter in the future. Expiration dates, product labeling, packaging and original Pine-Sol vs new Pine-Sol scents will need to be checked and reported on by someone else moving forward.
No services will be held per her request. If you would like to remember Nellie, please contribute to the Columbus Humane Society, www.columbushumane.org
